Ramadan is a month of reflection, prayer and fasting for Muslims. During the month, observers gain a better understanding of and appreciation for the suffering of impoverished and hungry people around the world. Ramadan also serves to remind Muslims of the importance of charity, and their obligation to be charitable during the month and all throughout the year.
Check out this frequently asked questions page about Ramadan for more information.
How the Ramadan Campaign Helps
Islamic Relief teams distribute food packets in impoverished communities to provide temporary relief during Ramadan. Each food packet holds about 30 pounds of food that is important to the local diet of the recipients, and is designed to help a family of five to seven people. This generally includes rice, wheat, lentils and oil, and often also sugar, canned fish and meat, and dates. Food are procured locally within each country. The Ramadan program is designed to complement longer-term relief and development projects that provide sustainable assistance in improving living conditions.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to a production error, a letter that was mailed to homes from Islamic Relief USA at the beginning of Ramadan included last year’s prices for Ramadan food packages. The prices listed on this page and on our online Ramadan donation page are correct. If you have questions about your donation, please connect with our call center team at 1-855-447-1001. We apologize for any inconveniences, and thank you for your support.
How You Can Help
IRUSA is a cosponsor of the “Ramadan Action Guide,” which serves to help community members learn how to make the most of the month by providing tips on how to effect positive change by connecting with congressional representatives and community and religious leaders, and raising awareness about hunger and poverty. Thanks to the Alliance to End Hunger, Hunger Free Communities Network, Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and ONE for helping put the Ramadan Action Guide together.
