Helping Nakar and Her Son Survive

Helping Nakar and Her Son Survive

Kenya

Nakar and her son Abokar live in the village of Barmil, in Wajir, Kenya. Nakar has two children and Abokar is the youngest. Drought in East Africa has killed livestock and crops, and food is scarce. Without food, Abokar has become severely malnourished and his mother says that he is no longer eating. To make matters worse, Nakar has been totally dependent on NGO’s for food and water for the last six years. She gets her water when the water tanker comes from Wajir, the closest town. There is no water in her village or nearby, making her totally dependent on water trucking for the little water they have.

Fortunately, Islamic Relief teams have taken Abokar to a local hospital for treatment and care. Islamic Relief offices in East Africa have been able to help many families by providing emergency health services, food and water. So far, the East Africa offices have distributed:

  • Food to 29,000 people
  • Access to water to 210,200 people
  • Health and nutrition services to 30,940 people, mostly children
We want to continue to help those children at risk for severe malnutrition and dehydration, but we can’t continue this work without your support. Across East Africa, so many other families are facing the same crisis as Nakar and her family. Your donations could help mothers like Nakar provide for their children. The need is so immense; your donations could literally save lives today.
