Fairouz Omali is a young widow in Jenin, Palestine. She has three young children—Warad, 6, Wasam, 8, and Istabraq, 9. She struggled for years with no job, sharing the financial assistance she received with her parents-in-law and her mother. Her house is nearly bare. In the summer, the heat would become unbearable, and in the winter, rainwater would often flood the house. There were many days when her children came to her, hungry, and she had little to give them.

Many Palestinians can’t afford the basics they need to survive. Job opportunities are scarce in Palestine, and unemployment is high, making it very difficult to break the cycle of poverty.

Islamic Relief is helping families like Fairouz’s build long-term solutions to poverty. With your donations, we were able to sponsor Fairouz’s family and provide her with a sewing machine and sewing materials. Now, she’s a seamstress. And she’s talented—locals are referring others to her to hem dresses, sew cushions and make tapestries. Fairouz can now send her children to school and she is able to give them food to eat each day. What’s more? Fairouz is now also able to support her own education, and is pursuing a degree to become an Islamic studies teacher.

Your donations help to support livelihood programs for Palestinians like Fairouz so that they can provide for themselves.
