How Islamic Relief Helped

Islamic Relief has responded to a number of emergency situations affecting regions in the Pacific Ocean. In 2004, Islamic Relief spearheaded a large-scale emergency response to a devastating tsunami, distributing food, tents and hygiene supplies to hundreds of survivors. When a natural disaster struck again 2006, Islamic Relief again responded quickly, distributing food items to 17 sub-districts in the first four hours after an earthquake hit. Islamic Relief USA coordinated a shipment of hundreds of thousands of dollars of essential aid to survivors. And within days, IRUSA was on the ground, distributing, setting up, or rehabilitating

  • 2,372 food packs
  • 5,352 hygiene kits, 5,074 blankets and 764 jerry cans
  • 148 tents and tarpaulin for 2,367 families
  • Eight school tents
  • Three generators for water pumps at wells
  • Two existing drilled wells including the addition of taps and pipes
  • Water tanks and bladders for water in each community

In addition to responding to emergencies, Islamic Relief opened a field office in the region in 2003 to maintain long-term projects to help improve living conditions in the area.

Islamic Relief has been working in Indonesia since 2000, partnering with local organizers to get vital assistance to residents as quickly as possible.
